Keto Catastrophe and Total Low Carb Loss

seal in la jolla - IG

This is an actual photo of me taken on the last day of my work trip to California.

Fail fail fail. <— And that pretty much sums up my travel eating choices over the past week. Sigh.

I don’t know what it is about the food selections that I make whenever I travel. If I had to give it a scientific designation, I believe that it would find a solid home in the “crapus maximus carbus” category.

So. Sad.

Maybe it’s a travel anxiety thing. Or maybe I just turn into teen wolf when I’m away from home and family. My bed remains unmade. I toss my clothes around the hotel room. I eat ice cream for breakfast. And I buy food shiznet like churros. Chur-frickin-ros. What. The. Eff.

churros

Damn you available churros…

But now I’m back in Texas. Back and away from sad food choice travel time. There are no available churros here. Well…they can be found here in the state but not here here. My local food supply (a.k.a. items found in my fridge and pantry) is free of basically every unacceptable sugary carby item that was consumed throughout my California quest to morph into a human seal.

I’m carb detoxing once more. Breaking the sugar cravings. Trying to get my energy levels back up once more. De-crapping the bod.

That’s it for me for today. No further sad consumption confessions du jour. In a moment I will post a low carb sweet recipe as a follow-up tribute to anyone else treading the food walk of shame. I am there with you, but, as always, today is a new day.  🙂

Big hugs to all. Jo

You may be a ‘carb criminal,’ Jo, but you are *funny*….

I’ve just come back this weekend from a holiday in Seville, Spain, so I know only too well the lure of chocolate con churros! I’m also back on low carb with a vengeance now. So I completely empathise!!

I’ve been in the same boat this week! To make matters worse our fridge went out and we are waiting for the new one to come in so we are just going to the store to get little things that don’t have to be refrigerated. Do you know how hard that is for low carb???

THAT IS THE WORST!!! I was so relieved when I landed a room with a fridge in it, but it was still a mega fail at the office. I am eeked out with office refrigerators anyway, but I can’t imagine what I would do at home. Keto eating at restaurants gets expensive fast. How frustrating for you!!!

Yea it’s sad when you really want to do good but literally can’t. I did have a small bag of pork skins and some cheese earlier. All we have in my small town is a dollar store so it’s not like I can get fresh meats and stuff. Im trying to decide what is something I can get to be ok tonight. The struggle is real.

Don’t forget nuts and almond milk. I know that it isn’t the same at all, but those are a couple of little items to help keep from totally derailing your eating. So sorry lovebug!!

Nope! No guilt – just take a little detour into comfort foods and then get back on track.. That happened to me yesterday w/a huge serving of chocolate cake – worth every bite, yet before I left the table, my stomach was growling with faux hunger pains… The sugar required the pancreas to inject mega insulin to eat that sugar and then my blood sugar fell, and then things like cake/sugar/rice – ahem carbs – prompt those hunger pains….

In time the body learns to appreciate the good-for-you foods and stay clear of the trouble makers…. But it’s oh so comforting to indulge…. like me, you’re now home and back on track like the cat with the canary feathers in mouth – hmmm, me? — yes, – we deserve those doses of comfort or convenient foods!

Traveling and keto can be tough. I feel ya! I am actually writing a blog post myself about this very topic. Don’t beat yourself up about it! We are human! It’s life!
So glad you are taking your step to better! That is wonderful! I highly recommend watching “The Magic Pill” on Netflix. It’s an INCREDIBLE documentary on the impact food has on us. I eat keto as well and LOVE it! I also drink pure therapeutic ketones which is a game-changer for me. #KetoBoom4Life
