Day 4 – Tech Challenge – Out to Lunch

If you are going to be on your phone throughout your meal, you might as well tell everyone with you to sit like this (because that’s how it feels to them).

We went to dinner during tech turn off time. This wasn’t much of a challenge for us, but it seemed like the challenge might be a worthy idea for at least a quarter of other restaurant patrons. It was the same sad scene that we could have found at any restaurant.  There were tables full of people on hot dates with their tablets and phones.

What’s the point of going out with each other? Maybe someone really dislikes cooking and clean up, but why bother bringing anyone with you? These moments matter.   It’s worth taking a few minutes to savor the food and the company.  Another tech break for the win. This tech turn off gig is starting to turn into a habit.

My original title on day 1 was tech turn off challenge. I changed it because I figured that most people would be so horrified at the concept that they wouldn’t bother to read it. I keep inching closer to putting the name back to that every additional day.

I agree. It’s sad to see people sitting next to each other and texting instead of actually talking!

I know that it’s easy to do, and as a parent with young kids who wear me out at times,I even understand wanting to have a little bit of down time. I really do. But mealtimes are important. We don’t think of them as ceremonies, but in a way, they very much are. My kids have their phones right now.as I type this, so again, I’m not judging tech in general. I’m tired. Mama needs a break! Just not during our family time. But that’s just what we prefer for our own family.

Absolutely yes! I think a break is a break is a break. We just need time off in general. It’s the never stopping that overwhelms me. There’s always more more more to do and finish and on and on. I’m tired just typing that. I love that you took time off. You deserve time for yourself.
