Waiting

I sit here waiting for a tropical storm to make its presence known sometime in the next hour or so. We need the rain, but in this area of the country, there is a fine line between getting a solid soak and getting a solid flood.

I’ve always loved the rain though.  I relax as the skies darken and the trees begin to rustle and sway in the wind.  I love to lay in bed listening to the countless droplets pelt the roof as the thunder grumbles all around me.

I am waiting.  Waiting for the rain.  Waiting for the calm it gives me.  Waiting for the white noise to drown out the concerns circling my mind and praying for it to clear away my fears, my doubts, and my worries.

I find myself waiting for so much lately, but a wiser part of my soul recognizes what I’m missing whenever I get lost in this pattern of waiting.  I’m missing the joy in what is because I’m so focused on what will be.  And someday, whenever those other moments come – those moments for which I have – I know that the waiting will just shift to something else.

I go over checklists in my mind.  I run through activity after activity after activity that needs to be completed.  I cross off ten items and twenty more take their place.  It’s a list that will continue to grow until I learn how to release it.

Life is meant to be appreciated, not completed and checked off.  Right now, I feel like I’m missing so much of it.  I don’t always feel this way.  I don’t usually feel this way.

But for now, for tonight, I wait for the rain.

We’ve just had a mini-heat wave here in Blighty. As usual, half of us sit and bake in the sun, the other half (including me) sit inside and whinge that we’re too hot. Thankfully it’s a few degrees cooler and it looks like it’s going to rain so I’m down to 50% on the cranky-o-meter. Enjoy the rain when it comes. 🙂

I find the heat to be rather stifling as well. It’s not unusual for the heat to be in full effect here, but I never seem to adjust to it. I don’t know why though. And yes, I will definitely enjoy the rain. 🙂

I hope the storm passed with little difficulty and damage, and that the rain felt cleansing and renewing. I was struck by your line “It’s a list that will continue to grow until I learn how to release it.” That’s something I struggle with too and haven’t figured it out yet, though I keep trying. I think “release” is the key word. ❤

Yes I agree, but let’s make a deal. If one of us figures out how to nix these lists, we must contact the other with the info asap. 😉 I appreciate your kind words. It’s something I really struggle with at times. It saddens me when I see it kicking into high gear when I am extra worried. Thank you for your kindness my friend.

I hope you enjoy the rain, and that you don’t have any harm from the storms. (I’ve always liked rainy days, too!)

Thank you sweet friend. It was a very quiet rain. We actually called it lame rain, but I suppose that beats tornadic rain. 😉

I hope that the storm gave just enough rainfall and has moved on until exhausting its energies.. Looks like it’s heading for my loved ones’ area in Ark-La-Miss… some of those areas are/were needing rain…. May the hurricane season be kind to all….

Yes the La-Miss in particular gets a beating around storm season. I heard about some terrible flooding so I hope that your family was ok.

It ended up being Tropical Storm Snooze here. We got a light misting I could have replicated with a sneeze. On that note, you Mickey D’s story cracked me up. Nice. 😉

I want a list free life. I hunger for it. Knowing me, I will likely add that to my list of things I need to get sometime this week. ;p

Hahaha… But I understand what you mean… Jo I don’t have kids or a better half so I take an off from life.. I do that frequently.. U still have a few more years till your kids grow up then the lists can become shorter

I always find the phrase better half to be a funny one. I think you are a better whole right now. 🙂 And the other is just about prioritizing and managing time. Everyone has stuff to do and places to go and people to see. Taking time to do things we enjoy shouldn’t be off the list. Also I need to lose the list! Seriously!

I meant the other half jo, I don’t consider better or otherwise.. They have their own advantages but in so many years I have had to do things alone, manage life alone albeit with a little help from friends..
I did have a little list in my mind when I got up but somehow I have forgotten it totally by mid morning yipee

I knew what you meant sweet girl! :). I don’t feel like we have to have someone to make us whole, but I do find comfort in sharing my journey with someone. I pray that you will find whatever and whomever you are seeking (and again that he won’t be in slippers on a bike!). 😉 You deserve joy and love in every way. If you were here, I would be your wing woman. Is that an Indian phrase as well??

Oh i would love your criticism on every man I meet. In india a woman over 40 years, life is considered over for them… I do get propositioned haha but I want everything or nothing… So standing strong… Maybe one day, some day Jo… I would love to gossip with you jo… And no slippers and no jeans halfway down his ass(or arse) hahaha

Never settle for less than everything. It’s too important. You are too important. And 40 isn’t even the halfway point. You are just giving the right one a little time to get totally ready for all things Fablini! 🙂

I’ve thought the same thing. Could you send me your email address in a comment here? It won’t post publicly unless I approve it so I can delete the comment after I note your email address. I’ll delete our last couple of comments as well if that works for you. Once we have emails, we can figure out a better way to be able to chat beyond the WP comment box! 😉
